Delivery & Procedural Information

Purchasing online from Cromwell’s Firearms or from another site/individual:

Step 1)
Find a licensed FFL dealer in your area. ( If you are not using Cromwell’s Firearms locally)

FFL search by zip code

What is a FFL?

Cromwell’s Firearms cannot ship a gun of any kind directly to you unless you are a FFL.
An "FFL" is a Federal Firearm Licensed dealer.  There are currently over 58,000 FFL holders nationwide.  FFL holders are commonly gun stores, pawn shops, and retail sporting goods stores.  However, there are also many individuals that hold a FFL.  All firearms sold to individuals online must be shipped to a local FFL holder who will then transfer the firearm (via ATF form 4473 and associated background check) to the individual.

Step 2)
Contact the dealer and let them know you would like to utilize them as your FFL agent for transfer of a firearms from Cromwell’s Firearms. Be sure to ask about their FFL transfer fee, commonly around $25-$60 but varies by state and dealer.  If you agree to their fee, please have them fwd a signed copy via fax or email 301-863-0377 (fax) or email to (scan is preferred by us and BATF via email).  If you are having trouble with this, please let us know and we will try to help.

Step 3)
Provide your dealer with our email address or fax number, so they can send a copy of their FFL.

Step 4)
Once you have selected an FFL for your transfer, please indicate the dealers name (name on the FFL) on your order ,so we know which FFL to match up to your order.  This should be placed in the shipping address area of the Shopping Cart form for proper delivery of your firearm.   If you don’t know your FFL dealer when you are checking out, please indicate you will be contacting us as soon as you choose your FFL dealer agent.

It is best to locate a FFL dealer to transfer your gun before you place your order. However, you can place your order first and then provide us with your FFL dealer info before we ship. We will hold your order for about 5 business days to give you time to locate a dealer and arrange a transfer, then provide that FFL dealer information to us.

Fees for Transfers into Cromwell’s Firearms: (if you do not buy your gun from us)

If you want to buy from someone other than us off of the Internet or from another dealer in another location, and you want us to act as your Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) agent, our transfer fees are $40 for Non-Regulated firearms and $55 for Regulated (handguns)  firearms.

Second and subsequent firearms, if processed with the same set of paperwork, are $20 for regulated firearms and $10 for non-regulated firearms.

Once you make a purchase and settle up with the other dealer, we send (email or fax) them a copy of our FFL, then they send us your firearm. Once we receive shipment, we will notify you your firearm(s) has arrived and is ready for you to come in and to start the paperwork.

We are not responsible for the transfer fees of other FFL agents or businesses.  If you are transferring a gun to another FFL, they may charge you a different fee, so check with them before transfer.
